WASHINGTON, DC – This morning, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) met with Maryland students participating in the annual National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's Youth Tour. Fifth District students Jacqueline Vukmer, Alec Hunsake, Rachel Howdyshell, and Mohammed Ayuby were selected to attend the Youth Tour by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative. Caroline County students Mitchell Wilson, Matthew Smith, Claudia Damico, Julia Zaki and Garrett Shull were selected to attend the Youth Tour by Choptank Electric Cooperative.

"Today, I met with outstanding Maryland students participating in the NRECA's annual Youth Tour," stated Congressman Hoyer. "I'm pleased they had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Capitol, as well as other sites and museums in D.C. this week, and learn more about the political process. I hope they found their visit to be informative and enjoyable, and I thank SMECO and Choptank Electric Cooperative for providing them with such a wonderful experience."

Approximately 1,500 high school students from across the country travel to Washington, D.C. in June as part of the annual NRECA Youth Tour. Students enter a competitive essay contest and winners are selected by local cooperatives to receive a trip to D.C. for a week.
