Hoyer Meets with Congressional Award Recipients

November 19, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – This afternoon, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) met with recipients of Congressional Awards, constituents Trevor Jackson of Bowie and Ian McClain of Huntingtown. The Congressional Award program honors the accomplishments of young Americans throughout the country. The program is open to all 14 to 23-year-olds and participants earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals by setting and accomplishing goals in four program areas: Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Both Trevor and Ian were Bronze Medalists. Trevor is a junior at DeMatha Catholic High School and Ian is a first year student at the University of Maryland, College Park.

"I congratulate Trevor and Ian on being awarded with Bronze Congressional Award Medals in recognition of their service in the Fifth District and commitment to personal development and wellness," stated Congressman Hoyer. "Not only did they dedicate time to improving their communities through volunteer work, but they also focused on increasing their participation in physical fitness, developing new interests and skills, and immersing themselves in a new experience through expedition and exploration. I commend Trevor and Ian, and I thank the Congressional Award program for their commitment to recognizing the contributions of so many well-rounded young people in Maryland and across the country."
