LARGO, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) joined Prince George's County Schools CEO Kevin Maxwell this morning to greet teachers and students at the new International School at Largo High School on their first day of the school year.

"Today marks a new beginning for Prince George's County Public Schools and I was happy to welcome students at the new International High School at Largo High on their first day with Dr. Maxwell and Principal Alison Hanks-Sloan," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "In Congress, I have been a strong supporter of investing in our schools to ensure that our children have the necessary resources to succeed and make it in America. I wish the students and teachers a successful school year and will continue to work with Dr. Maxwell to strengthen our schools to prepare our students in Prince George's County to compete with students throughout the country."

The International School at Largo High School is one of two International High Schools opening for the 2015-2016 school year in Prince George's County. The other location is Annapolis Road Academy in Bladensburg. The two new schools will employ cutting-edge learning practices paired with a blended learning model and integrated literacy development to increase academic achievement among English Language Learners (ELLS).
