Hoyer Hosts Luncheon to Honor Outstanding Fifth District Educators

June 9, 2011

CLINTON, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) hosted a luncheon with outstanding educators in the Fifth District who have been honored as exemplary teachers and principals.  Among those who participated in today's event were the recipients of the 2010/2011 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award, County Teacher of the Year, and the recipient of the 2010/2011 Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award.

"As a nation, we owe our teachers a great debt, not only for our education in the classroom, but for inspiring and encouraging us to be and do better," stated Congressman Hoyer. "I hope Marylanders will join me in honoring our teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to local communities. We must work harder to ensure teachers have the tools and rewards they deserve – a livable salary, safe classrooms, and sufficient resources for quality instruction. If we forsake our obligation to teachers, we risk a promising future for our children and nation."
