Hoyer Congratulates White Marsh Elementary School on Maryland Blue Ribbon Recognition
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) congratulated White Marsh Elementary School in St. Mary's County on its selection as a 2016 Maryland Blue Ribbon School by the Maryland State Department of Education. The school, located in Mechanicsville, was one of six Maryland public schools to receive the honor.
"I congratulate the administrators, teachers, staff, and students at White Marsh Elementary for their hard work, exceptional accomplishments, and dedication to education that has earned them this special honor as a Maryland Blue Ribbon School," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "I'm proud that White Marsh Elementary has particularly excelled in Maryland and nationwide requirements in the areas of math and reading. I am encouraged that the work being done at this school will serve as a model for schools around the state in order to ensure that we are closing achievement gaps and opening pathways for success to all students."
White Marsh Elementary will be invited by the U.S. Department of Education to apply to be a National Blue Ribbon School. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was founded in 1982 to recognize our nation's top schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps.
