September 28, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) congratulated Saint Peter's Elementary School in Waldorf, Sunderland Elementary School in Sunderland, and Saint John's Catholic School in Hollywood on their selection as 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education. The schools in Maryland's Fifth District were three out of 342 schools nationally to be selected this year.

"I am very pleased to join in congratulating three outstanding schools in the Fifth District on their selection as 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools," said Congressman Hoyer. "These three schools have each demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, and I applaud them for this national recognition. The teachers and faculty members at Saint Peter's Elementary School, Sunderland Elementary School, and Saint John's Catholic School have worked hard to ensure their students succeed, and I join in congratulating them for their hard work."

"Maryland schools continue to be among the best in the nation, and it's due to the dedication of students, teachers, and parents," continued Congressman Hoyer. "I'm confident these three schools will continue to lead the way, and inspire others with their contributions to our communities."

Now in its 35th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was founded in 1982 to recognize our nation's top schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps.
