Hoyer Congratulates Fifth District School on Being Named a Maryland Blue Ribbon Honoree
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) congratulated Robert Goddard French Immersion School on being selected as a 2014 Maryland Blue Ribbon School. Goddard French Immersion, along with five other Maryland public schools selected as Blue Ribbon honorees, will be invited by the U.S. Department of Education to apply to be National Blue Ribbon Schools, and each school will be honored by the Maryland House of Delegates and the State Senate next Spring.
"I join in congratulating Robert Goddard French Immersion School on being selected as one of six Blue Ribbon Schools in Maryland," said Congressman Hoyer. "I'm proud our state's public schools are leading the nation, and it is thanks to the hard work, dedication, and academic excellence exhibited at schools like Goddard French Immersion. Not only have students obtained advanced scores in math and reading, but many have been awarded qualifications by the French Ministry of Education to certify their proficiency in French and have received top honors in programs ranging from the National Science Bowl to the Prince George's County Instrumental Music Assessment. In addition, Goddard French Immersion has served as a strong community partner, donating thousands of dollars to local and national charities. I commend teachers, administrators, students, and their parents on this well-deserved honor."
In addition to Robert Goddard French Immersion Elementary/Middle School, the following Maryland schools were named Blue Ribbon honorees today:
· Frost Elementary School, Allegany County
· Linthicum Elementary School, Anne Arundel County
· Western School of Technology & Environmental Science, Baltimore County
· Northern Garrett High School, Garrett County
· Cashell Elementary School, Montgomery County
