Hoyer Congratulates Bowie State University Winter Graduates
WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after he delivered remarks at the Bowie State University winter commencement ceremony, where Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden delivered the commencement address:
"I was honored to join Dr. Carla Hayden today at the Bowie State University winter commencement ceremony. As our 14th Librarian of Congress, and the first woman and African American to hold the post, Dr. Hayden is not only an outstanding leader, but a true role model for the class of 2016.
"When I was first elected to the Maryland State Senate fifty years ago, supporting Bowie State University was one of my top priorities. Over the years, I've been exceptionally proud of the progress the university has made, and I am continually impressed by the extremely talented students who have attended and graduated from Bowie State.
"Today I see a class of bright, eager graduates who are poised to help us navigate the new challenges facing our world today. I join in congratulating the class of 2016 graduates and wish them the best of luck as they embark on their next journey."
