Hoyer Attends Tour of Capital One Bank at Parkdale High School and Participates in Roundtable Discussion with Students
RIVERDALE, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) visited Parkdale High School to tour Capital One Bank's Student-Run Bank Branch located in the school and participate in a roundtable discussion with students on the Student Banking Program and the importance of financial literacy.
"One step in addressing our nation's fiscal challenges includes ensuring each individual and family takes responsibility for their finances," stated Congressman Hoyer. "That's why it's so important for everyone to understand personal finances, to set a budget, and to stick to it. I'm pleased these students have the opportunity to learn about financial planning, and I thank Capital One for providing them with hands-on experience managing money as student bankers."
Parkdale High School's Capital One Bank Student-Run Bank Branch opened in September 2011, and is the fourth student-run bank operated by Capital One Bank. The program is a community initiative in low to moderate income areas that provides high school seniors with the opportunity to work as student bankers. Under the guidance of Capital One Bank management, student bankers offer banking services to students, teachers and administrators. In addition to managing the bank, student bankers are also responsible for teaching budgeting and saving skills to other students.
