Hoyer Attends Morgan State University's Southern Maryland Alumni Chapter Dinner

April 28, 2016

WALDORF, MD –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) tonight attended and delivered brief remarks at Morgan State University's Southern Maryland Alumni Chapter 10th Annual Blue and Orange Scholarship Dinner Dance and Awards Program.

"I was honored to join more than 300 Southern Maryland alumni members of Morgan State University tonight and thank them for their contributions to our communities and for providing scholarships to students to attend their alma mater," stated Congressman Steny Hoyer. "Morgan State is one of Maryland's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), which I have been proud to support. Morgan State awards more bachelor's degrees to African-American students than any other campus in Maryland and has prepared generations of alumni who are now business and community leaders, educators, and scholars. Today, the university is producing highly skilled alumni who are filling in-demand jobs at businesses and federal facilities in the Fifth District, such as Patuxent River Naval Air Station and Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center. I will continue to support Morgan State and all of the HBCUs in Maryland as they continue their mission and tradition of educating students from across the country and around the world."

Tonight's awards program will help to provide scholarships to students who will attend Morgan State University. The Southern Maryland Alumni Chapter was established in October of 2004 and chartered at Morgan State University the following year.
