Hoyer Remarks at Democratic Issues Conference Introducing Governor Wes Moore
"You're about to see someone exciting. Some person who represents everything we've been talking about this morning, everything we did in the 117th Congress. [A person who] represents an extraordinary spokesperson for what we're talking about as Democrats, what we want to see for our people, and what we want to see adopted not only at the federal level but also at the state level. We are so proud to see Lisa Blunt Rochester. I came, when I introduce her, at an event for Lisa, I tell people because they are, of course, Delawareans, and I say to them, well, I represent suburban Delaware, we call it Maryland.

Maryland Congressional Members Announce $2 Million in Federal Funding to Move Forward on Removal of Highway to Nowhere

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer, Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), David Trone (MD-06) announced $2 million in federal funding for Baltimore City to plan for the redevelopment of the Highway to Nowhere in West Baltimore, a highway project that destroyed homes and businesses and displaced 1,500 residents at the time of its construction more than 50 years ago. The structure has divided and damaged those communities ever since.

Hoyer, Cardin, Van Hollen, Schumer, Klobuchar, and Booker Announce the Removal of the Bust of Dred Scott Author Roger Taney from Display in the U.S. Capitol
Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rules Committee Chair Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) announced that the bust of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney that was on display in the Old Supreme Court Chamber, has been removed permanently. The action comes weeks after enactment of their legislation, S. 5229, that ordered the removal. A bust of Thurgood Marshall, the first African American to serve on the high court, will be added at an appropriate place in the Capitol at a later time.

Hoyer (MD-05) announced that the 42nd Annual Black History Month Breakfast will take place on Saturday, February 25, at 8:30 a.m. at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland. This year’s celebration will feature keynote speaker Governor Wes Moore, the 63rd Governor of Maryland and first Black Governor in the state’s history. The theme of this year’s Black History Month Celebration is “Black Resistance in the Past, Present, and Future.”
