H.R. 55, which passed the House last night with a strong bipartisan vote of 422-3, would designate lynching as a hate crime under federal law. Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) was joined by Congressman Anthony Brown (MD-04) and Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) for the 41st Annual Black History Month Breakfast, which celebrated this year’s Black History Month theme, Black Health and Wellness. Congressman Hoyer released the following video highlighting speeches and performances from the breakfast that took place virtually this past weekend. Several of this year’s speakers also touched on the importance of combating racial disparities in communities in Maryland and across the country, including keynote speaker Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett, Assistant Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, who helped develop the COVID-19 vaccines.
