On the National Day of Action to protect the Affordable Care Act, I was pleased to meet with a diverse, energetic group of people in Southern Maryland that is becoming more involved in government and politics.

I was very pleased to visit with social studies students at Southern High School this morning and discuss the importance of civic engagement.

Today I joined the Southern Maryland and Prince George's County legislative delegations to discuss their legislative priorities for 2017.

Recognizing that safety is of utmost importance to the Metro system, today we introduced a joint resolution to give Congressional consent to establish the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission.

Today's decision by the Federal Transit Administration to withhold transit funds from Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia until a State Safety Oversight Program is established and certified further stresses the importance of implementing the State Safety Oversight Program.
