November 11, 2023 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today in recognition of Veterans Day: “Today, I am proud to join my fellow Americans in honoring the men and women who have worn the uniform for our country and served our flag. Every veteran, whether they served overseas or here at home, in times of peace or in times of war, has made sacrifices for our nation that few must face and that no one can repay. Veterans Day is an important time to reaffirm our support for those brave heroes and their families – long after they return to civilian life. “House Democrats are committed to ensuring that our veterans have access to quality, affordable health care and other essential services. Last year, we passed the historic Sergeant First Class (SFC) Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, which expands health benefits to 3.5 million veterans exposed to harmful chemicals from burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic sources. I am also encouraged by Democratic action to provide greater resources for our veterans who are struggling with mental-health challenges, such as increasing funding for the 988 Veterans Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. “Just as our veterans served our country, our country must serve our veterans. I will continue working with the Regional Leadership Council, the Veterans Affairs Committee, and colleagues on both sides of the aisle to honor our veterans with action. America's veterans laid the foundation of our great democracy. May we salute their bravery and pledge to honor their courage year round.” Issues: National Security & Veterans
