Hoyer Statement on U.S. Vote at the United Nations General Assembly on Ukraine
"How disgraceful that on the day we grieve Russia's illegal, brutal, and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine three years ago, America sided with the war criminal who initiated it on a key United Nations vote. Today, the United States joined Russia in voting against a UN resolution that stated the truth: Vladimir Putin started this war. Only eighteen nations – including Iran, North Korea, Belarus, Hungary, Sudan, and other Putin sycophants and authoritarian regimes – had the audacity to dispute that fact by opposing the resolution. Not even China could stomach such a blatant falsehood, abstaining from the vote instead.
"Trying to appease Vladimir Putin is as dangerous as it is futile. By standing with our adversaries instead of our allies, the Trump Administration makes America look weak. The Administration's actions these past few weeks invite war criminals, fascists, and dictators to broaden their assault on democracy, human rights, and international law. To abandon our allies is to abandon America itself."
