December 7, 2023 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) issued the following statement today after Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06) announced that she will not run for re-election in 2024: “I was saddened to learn earlier today that my friend Rep. Kathy Manning will not run for another term in the House of Representatives. In just two terms, she has proven to be an effective legislator and a key member of our Caucus. Her record speaks for itself, which is why the state GOP in North Carolina knew she couldn't be beaten in a fair race. Were it not for their blatantly partisan gerrymandering, I have no doubt that Kathy could have held her seat and continued delivering results for as long as she wished. “The first woman in history to chair the board of the Jewish Federations of North America, Kathy has invaluable perspective on how Congress can best support the Jewish community and our crucial U.S.-Israel relationship. She has excelled as co-chair of the House Bipartisan Task Force on Antisemitism. She remains one of the most outspoken Members on issues concerning the Jewish community in America, Israel, and around the world – especially in the wake of Hamas' brutal attack on October 7. “Kathy has accomplished more in two terms than many Members do in decades. She was instrumental in helping House Democrats pass our Investing in America agenda, including the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, and many other historic laws in the 117th Congress. I have particularly appreciated her advocacy on issues related to health care, always fighting to ensure Americans can access the quality, affordable care they need. “Although I am sad that Kathy will depart, I know that she will remain an important voice for North Carolinians, the Jewish community, and the American people. I thank her for her continued service, and I look forward to seeing all that she will accomplish in the years ahead."
