Hoyer Statement on the Retirement of AIPAC President Howard Kohr

March 27, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) issued the following statement after Howard Kohr, President of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), announced that he will be retiring at the end of 2024:

“I join people throughout America, Israel, and the world in thanking Howard Kohr for his leadership as President of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). I was sorry to learn that he is moving on from the position at the end of 2024 after 27 successful years. In that time, he dramatically grew the organization and expanded its influence. Few leaders have done as much to strengthen our U.S.-Israel relationship in its 75-year history as Howard Kohr. I've been proud to work with him to support that effort in Congress.

“In the wake of Hamas' devastating October 7 terrorist attacks and the subsequent 388% spike in the rate of antisemitic incidents across the country, it is crucial that America continues to stand with Israel and Jews around the world now more than ever. I know that Howard will keep working to ensure that we do, even as he steps back as president. No matter his title, he will always remain one of the most important leaders in the Jewish community today.”
