Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Plan to Revoke the Legal Status of Ukrainian Refugees
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today regarding reports of President Trump's plan to revoke the temporary legal status of 240,000 Ukrainians who fled Ukraine due to the war with Russia:
“Inexplicably and dangerously, Donald Trump continues to side with Russia and its leader, the war criminal Vladimir Putin. His administration voted with Russia in the United Nations, excluded Ukraine from initial peace negotiations, paused intelligence sharing vital to Ukrainian military operations, and now plans to roll back temporary legal status to 240,000 Ukrainian refugees who found safety in America. He does all of this to assist the Russian transgressor and disadvantage Ukraine. These actions make it clear that Donald Trump’s objective is not peace for Ukraine but victory for Russia.
"This administration is giving aid and comfort to our enemy: Russia! I cannot believe we are witnessing the United States of America side with a ruthless dictator against an ally that is fighting for its democracy and its sovereignty. That is the opposite of making America great. That is what Chamberlain did in 1938. And that is what Trump is doing now.”
