Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the passing of civil rights leader and radio host Joe Madison: “I am saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and civil rights leader, Joe Madison. Joe brought inspiration and truth to many in the D.C. metro region and the world. I know he will be greatly missed by listeners throughout Maryland’s Fifth District and across the country, myself included. “Joe dedicated his life to championing the causes of racial justice and equity. It was an honor to work closely with him on the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, written by my close friend Congressman Bobby Rush, in the 117th Congress. I was proud to have Joe by my side as President Biden signed that historic bill into law. Joe and I last spoke just a few weeks ago about the critical importance of ensuring that the FBI was built in Prince George’s County. Joe was a steadfast partner in the fight to bring investments to the Prince George’s region and was a key leader in uplifting the stories of Black Americans. My thoughts are with his wife Sherry, their beautiful children, and grand-children during this difficult time.”
