Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the passing of former Congressman Bill Delahunt: “Whether as a Veteran, a prosecutor, or a Member of the United States House of Representatives, my friend Bill Delahunt lived a life of service. I was saddened to learn of his passing over the weekend, as were many others on Capitol Hill and across the country. “I had the pleasure of serving in the House with Bill for all fourteen years that he represented Massachusetts's 10th District. In that time, he demonstrated his great intellect and policy knowledge on a number of issues – from adoption rights to foreign policy and international diplomacy. Crucially, he proved to be a man of strong character. Bill was adept at working across the aisle to deliver results not only for his constituents but for all Americans. “Generous, humble, and willing to put his country over himself, Bill had all the traits of a terrific legislator. Indeed, he put off his own retirement because he knew he had an important part to play in passing President Obama's historic legislative agenda. Although Bill has passed on, the extraordinary impact of his vision and his public service will long endure. I offer my sincerest condolences to all his family and friends as they mourn this tremendous loss.”
