Hoyer Statement on Nomination of Jack Lew to Serve as Ambassador to Israel

September 5, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on President Biden's nomination of Secretary Jack Lew to serve as Ambassador to Israel:

“I commend President Biden for nominating Secretary Jacob J. Lew to serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the State of Israel. With impressive experience in academia, law, finance, and government, Jack is an exemplary choice for this crucial position. He has demonstrated his intellect, integrity, and prudence time and time again – especially during his time as Secretary of the Treasury, White House Chief of Staff, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and a principal on the National Security Council.

“I have the utmost confidence in his ability to strengthen our vital, longstanding U.S.-Israel relationship. From promoting our nations' mutual prosperity and security to ensuring that Israel remains a beacon of democracy for the region and the world, Jack has the expertise necessary to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing our two countries. That includes expanding Israel's diplomatic integration with its neighbors and countering the threat that Iran poses to international peace. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to confirm Jack as ambassador expeditiously. I look forward to working closely with him to strengthen and protect the shared values of liberty, equality, and democracy that bind America and Israel together.”
