Hoyer Statement on Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the Supreme Court decision in Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine:
“Today, the Supreme Court upheld the status quo and rejected efforts to invalidate the Food and Drug Administration's science-based decision to expand women's access to mifepristone, used for abortion and miscarriage care. In a unanimous opinion, the Court ensured that mifepristone can still be dispensed at pharmacies and through the mail, allowing women the freedom to receive reproductive care in the settings that work best for them. Although I'm relieved by this case's outcome, we must stay vigilant. There will undoubtedly be similar efforts in the months ahead that endanger women's access to reproductive health care, made even more crucial as states ban and place harmful restrictions on in-person services.
“Ever since a Republican-appointed majority on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, American women today have had fewer freedoms today than their mothers and even grandmothers did decades ago. We continue to see Republicans across the country and at every level of government side with the extremists working to impose these restrictions on women's freedoms and their access to reproductive health care. They will not stop turning back the clock on women's reproductive rights until we codify Roe v. Wade in federal statute. Last Congress, I was proud to put the Women's Health Protection Act on the House Floor to do just that. Although our Democratic Majority passed that legislation in the House multiple times, Republicans blocked it in the Senate. Democrats will not yield until we see the Roeprecedent codified and women's constitutional rights to reproductive care restored and respected.”
