Hoyer Statement on the 2025 Presidential Inauguration
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today regarding the inauguration ceremony for President Donald J. Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance:
"I am attending today's inauguration as part of my steadfast commitment to the peaceful transfer of power – a central tenet of our democracy. I am pleased that President Biden and Vice President Harris are joining us at the Capitol to show their support for that principle. They could have declined to come, as their predecessor did in 2021. Instead, they recognize that maintaining our nation's traditions and upholding our democratic values are more important than any one person.
"President Trump and I do not always see eye to eye. Nevertheless, I wish him and his administration luck. His decisions these next four years will affect people across the country and around the world. I hope he will make the right ones. I will continue working to build consensus on the most pressing issues facing our people and will do my part to ensure our country remains a land of opportunity, democracy, and the rule of law. From standing up for our federal workers to protecting the historic investments Democrats made in the American people the past four years, I will keep fighting for Marylanders and Americans no matter who sits in the Oval Office.”
