Congressman Hoyer Announces AFGE National President Everett Kelley as His Guest to Trump's Joint Address to Congress
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) announced that he will bring Dr. Everett Kelley, National President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), as his guest to President Donald Trump's Joint Address to Congress:
"I am honored that our nation's greatest champion for federal workers will be my guest to Donald Trump's Joint Address to Congress: American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) National President Dr. Everett Kelley," Congressman Hoyer said. "He leads the largest federal employee union in the nation, representing 800,000 workers in virtually every agency in the federal and D.C. governments. Together, President Kelley and I are leading the charge to counter the Trump Administration's unprecedented, illegal purge of thousands of hardworking federal employees. Our federal workers are some of America's most principled, patriotic, and talented citizens. Trump, Elon Musk, and Russell Vought have tried to demonize and intimidate them these past few weeks. In doing so, the Trump Administration attacks not only our federal workers but also the American people they serve every single day. I am proud to call President Kelley my constituent, my friend, and my partner in defending our federal workers. I look forward to having him join me for the Joint Address and to continue our work to protect federal workers and the vital services they provide to communities across the country."
"It's such an honor to attend Donald Trump’s Joint Address to Congress with my friend, my partner, and my Congressman, Steny Hoyer," said AFGE National President Everett Kelley. "For decades, Congressman Hoyer has been on the front lines fighting for labor, civil, and human rights, ensuring that all people are treated with the dignity they deserve. Federal employees have no better friend on Capitol Hill than Representative Hoyer, and we are so thankful for his partnership to lead the charge to save our civil service from unprecedented attacks from Elon Musk and the Trump Administration. As Leader Hoyer has said, ‘if you save the civil service, you save the country,’ and we are so glad he is in the fight with us."
