The Social Security Administration plans to open a field office in Charlotte Hall sometime in April. Residents will be able to file for Social Security, disability benefits and Medicare at the office.
Currently, the Social Security Administration offers intermittent service in Southern Maryland, the office of U.S. Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md., 5th) noted in announcing the permanent field office.
For example, the Social Security staff visits the Leonardtown campus of College of Southern Maryland from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month.
The Charlotte Hall office will be open five days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., said Karen Everett, public information officer for St. Mary's County government.
The office "will better serve the demand and growing population of seniors in Southern Maryland," according to a news release from Hoyer's office.
The new office will be at 30071 Business Center Drive in Charlotte Hall.
