NEWSLETTER: Protecting Women's Freedom to Make Their Own Health Care Decisions

A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSMAN HOYER

Last month, the conservative-majority Supreme Court overruled the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision -- turning back the clock for women's freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions nationwide, and putting millions of Americans at risk. This ruling is deeply out of step with the American people as polling continues to show that a bipartisan majority of Americans oppose the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

In response to this egregious ruling, I brought two bills to the House Floor to protect abortion access. This week, House Democrats passed an updated version of the Women's Health Protection Act to ensure women have the right to make their own health care decisions without the interference of politicians. I also voted to advance the Ensuring Women's Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, to make sure Americans can travel safely to states where abortion care is accessible.

In addition to to our work in the House, I applaud President Biden's executive order help protect women's access to reproductive health care services. As Majority Leader, I will continue to work with my Democratic colleagues to build on our progress and safeguard reproductive freedoms.
