NEWSLETTER: Protecting the Affordable Care Act
A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSMAN STENY H. HOYER
Earlier today, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in California v. Texas, a Republican-led case to strike down the Affordable Care Act and its protections. If the ACA is struck down, thousands of Maryland families will lose access to affordable, quality health care. Without the ACA, millions of Americans would lose protections for pre-existing conditions, insurers would be able to discriminate against women and older Americans, and parents wouldn't be able to keep kids on their insurance until they're 26. It's unconscionable that Republicans are actively working to take health care away from so many Americans in the middle of a pandemic.
As we wait to hear the outcome of the case before the Supreme Court, I'll continue to work with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to strengthen the ACA. Throughout this Congress, we have passed legislation to build on the progress made by the law and to lower health care and prescription drug costs. I look forward to working with the incoming Biden-Harris Administration to increase access to affordable care.
In case you missed it, the open enrollment period for health insurance continues through December 15. Even if you already have coverage, I encourage you to visit here.
Sincerely Yours,
Steny H. Hoyer
