NEWSLETTER: Answering Your Questions During my Telephone Town Hall

December 16, 2021

A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSMAN HOYER

I was glad to host a telephone town hall earlier this week with nearly 8,000 residents of the Fifth District tuning in to hear about what I've been working on in Congress on their behalf.

I was pleased to share with folks information on how the bipartisan infrastructure law and the Build Back Better Act will help families in the Fifth District. I really enjoyed listening to everyone's thoughtful questions, and I appreciate so many people taking the time to hear my answers and allowing me to share resources.

Some folks expressed concerns about finding affordable housing; I was proud to share that the House-passed Build Back Better Act includes $170 billion to help expand affordable housing and public housing in Maryland and around the country, making it much easier for those who face housing insecurity. Others asked questions about our environment and how the bipartisan infrastructure law will expand our network of Electric Vehicle charging stations. I spoke about how this law will help mitigate climate change by funding charging stations here in Maryland and across the nation, and I also shared that the House-passed Build Back Better Act would build on this progress by securing the largest federal investment in addressing climate change in history. Together, these measures will ensure we can build modern, sustainable infrastructure and create jobs here in the U.S.

During the call, I also got several questions about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I emphasized how important it is to get vaccinated and, if eligible, to get a booster shot. The American Rescue Plan accelerated vaccine deployment in our District, and even made it possible to secure the Greenbelt mass vaccination site that I fought for to reduce vaccine inequities. It's easy to get vaccinated today, and you can do so by clicking here.

Many of you were also rightly concerned about the state of our democracy; I promise you that I am working hard in Congress to protect voting rights and our democracy. I continue to champion reforms such as H.R.1, the For the People Act, and H.R.4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

We've got a lot of work to do in Maryland to Build Back Better, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and President Biden to achieve a better quality of life for everyone in Maryland.
