Maryland Delegation Announces More Than $17.5 Million for Pandemic Preparedness and Prevention

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), Anthony Brown (MD-04), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), and David Trone (MD-06) today announced $17,624,885 in federal funding for the Maryland Department of Health to strengthen the prevention and control of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases across the state.

"The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the notion that preparedness through a robust public health infrastructure can save lives," said the lawmakers. "This funding will bolster the state's current public health response efforts and ability to better prevent the spread of future infectious diseases. We will continue working to support the Maryland Department of Health in keeping Marylanders safe."

The award comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Preparedness and Emerging Infections (DPEI). It will help the Maryland Department of Health continue to respond to and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases by bolstering surveillance, intervention and outreach strategies.
