October 6, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), Anthony Brown (MD-04), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), and David Trone (MD-06) today announced $54,235,170 in federal funding for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program to bolster the HIV/AIDS surveillance and prevention programs, reduce health disparities and improve health outcomes across Maryland. The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program has been instrumental in providing a better quality of life for more than 500,000 beneficiaries, whose record-high levels of viral suppression are due to the success of the program.

"For decades, the HIV/AIDS epidemic has taken thousands of Marylanders from us too soon, impacting families and communities," the lawmakers said. "This new round of annual funding for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program builds on the continued success of the program — particularly during the challenges of the pandemic — and will provide critical support, treatment, and preventative healthcare for at-risk communities. Team Maryland is committed to closing the gaps in our public health infrastructure, ensuring at-risk communities have access to affordable and high-quality preventative health care and treatment services."

Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, through Fiscal Year 2021 annual appropriations, and is broken down as follows:

  • $15,599,509 for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part A to provide direct clinical and medical support services for individuals living with HIV.
  • $34,689,791 for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part B to improve the quality, availability and organization of HIV health care and support services and for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program.
  • $2,619,579 for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part C Early Intervention Services to support community-based healthcare centers. Awardees include:
    • $1,086,489 for Chase Brexton Health Services (Baltimore)
    • $538,973 for Total Health Care, Inc. (Baltimore)

  • $1,326,321 for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part D to provide family-centered comprehensive HIV care and treatment for women, infants, children, and youth with HIV.

The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program provides a comprehensive system of HIV primary medical care, essential support services, and medications for low-income people living with HIV who are uninsured and underserved.
