Make It In America: What's Next? Maryland Hearing Witness List and Transcripts

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) is hosting a series of hearings called "Make It In America: What's Next?" to revamp the Make It In America jobs plan that House Democrats launched in 2010. After five years and 16 bills signed into law, the hearing series will explore how the economy has, and hasn't, changed, and what families and businesses need in 2015 to Make It In America.

The "Make It In America: What's Next?" hearing series started with a Member Day on July 9. Twenty-one House Democrats testified on four separate panels, where they addressed important topics, such as innovation, skills training, and manufacturing, and shared their ideas on ways to update the Make It In America plan to ensure that families and businesses across the country have what they need to get ahead.

The second "Make It In America: What's Next?" hearing was held on July 28 and featured outside experts, who are leaders in the fields of entrepreneurship, information technology, workforce development, and other areas critical to our long-term economic competitiveness, and who addressed the issues that were brought up at the by Members who participated in the first hearing.

The July 31st district field hearing featured testimony from local business and innovation leaders, manufacturers, educators, and labor to get insight on how the Make It In America jobs plan can be updated to reflect today's economic landscape. Below is a list of speakers and prepared remarks from witnesses at the field hearing:

PANEL I:  Maryland Research and Innovation
