Hoyer: White House Report Underscores Importance of Supporting Military Families
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after the Obama Administration released a report on military families. For a summary of the report, click here.
“Today, the White House released an important report on our shared responsibility to those who serve our country in uniform: ‘Strengthening Our Military Families.’ The review rededicates the Federal government to initiatives that address our military families’ needs, including health services, children’s education, opportunities for military spouses, and childcare availability. Democrats look forward to working with the Obama Administration to deliver our military families and veterans the outstanding services they deserve.
“We have a strong record to build on. In Maryland’s 5th District, I’ve worked hard to bring better health services to the Charlotte Hall VA Clinic, where hundreds of Maryland veterans receive care. And in the last two Congresses, Democrats passed bills to improve care for wounded servicemembers, improve resources for military families, bolster VA health care, strengthen the education benefits of the post-9/11 GI Bill, and help veterans find jobs. While all of those bills were signed into law, our work is not done, and we look forward to continuing to listen to the needs of the members of our Armed Forces and their families, many of whom I am proud to represent. Today’s report is another indication of how seriously the Obama Administration and House Democrats take that commitment.”
