"Hi.  I'm Congressman Steny Hoyer.

"As we observe Women's History Month, we have an opportunity to learn from and be inspired by women from across our country and throughout our history who fought for justice, equal rights, and opportunities for all.

"We celebrate women like Harriet Tubman from my home state of Maryland, who was a leader in the Underground Railroad; women like Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, who marched and protested for the equal right to vote; and women like Gloria Steinem and Lilly Ledbetter, who continue to write and speak out for full equality in our society and in the workplace.

"In Congress, I'm proud to serve alongside so many accomplished women who are leaders for our country. Including, of course, Nancy Pelosi, who made history as the first women to serve as Speaker of the House and continues to be the Democratic Leader.

"However, only one out of every five Members of the House of Representatives today is a woman, despite women making up half of our country.

"American women still earn, on average, just seventy-eight cents to a man's dollar. That's not right.

"And, while much progress has been made, violence against women has still not been rooted out from our society.

"All of us – men and women alike – must do more to make progress where progress is still needed.

"Women's History Month is as much a time of reflection on the past achievements as it is a moment for rededication to completing the unfinished work of equality.

"As the father of three daughters, and a grandfather to two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters, I want them and all women to grow up in an America with the same opportunities to work hard, succeed, and contribute to building our country.

"Let us mark this Women's History Month with the determination to make that vision a reality for generations to come."
