Hoyer Urges Fifth District Residents to Take Safety Precautions Ahead of Hurricane Irene
Hoyer Meets with St. Mary's County Officials to Discuss Preparation Efforts
LEONARDTOWN, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement:
"This afternoon, I met with Jack Russell, President of the St. Mary's County Board of Commissioners, and Bob Kelly, St. Mary's County Director of Emergency Services, to discuss preparations for the expected impact of Hurricane Irene. Governor O'Malley has declared a State of Emergency for Maryland in advance of the impact, and I urge all of the residents of the Fifth District to take the necessary safety precautions ahead of what is forecasted to be a dangerous storm. I also urge the residents of the Fifth District to follow evacuation orders if they are given. As Maryland readies for the hurricane, I will continue to work with federal, state, and local officials to ensure that our community is properly prepared for the storm and its possible aftermath."
