Hoyer Tours Metro's Security Operations Control Center
LANDOVER, MD –– Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) today toured the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Security Operations Control Center (SOCC) with Metro's General Manager and CEO Paul Wiedefeld. The new $3.6 million facility located in Landover became fully operational in November.
"I was pleased to visit this state-of-the-art facility today that provides Metro Transit Police with an integrated security system which includes constant camera monitoring of Metro's 91 rail stations, police radio communications, and fire alarms," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "Metro's security capabilities have previously been in place but this new Center is a hub for the thousands of cameras at Metro stations and is staffed by trained personnel. This system gives Metro the ability to track riders throughout the system and the cameras can provide detailed information for solving crimes. It is important that Metro continue to work to improve its security efforts to ensure the safety of its riders and to protect Metro rail properties."
The Security Operations Control Center was constructed with federal funding. The Center also includes intrusion alarms, chemical detection devices, video analytics, and a computer automated dispatch.
