Hoyer Statement on WMATA Incident Report on August 6th Derailment
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) released its incident report on the August 6, 2015 derailment between Federal Triangle and Smithsonian metro stations:
"It is very disturbing to hear that the August 6th Metro train derailment occurred after a Metro employee deleted a portion of an inspection report showing the defect. This is an incident that could have been prevented and I urge Metro leadership to implement the proper procedures and protocol to prevent a human error such as this from happening again. Metro operates the second largest rail transit system in the nation and many Fifth District residents and area commuters rely on it each day. Metro must also work quickly to restore the trust of its riders and other stakeholders to ensure a safe and efficient transit system."
