Hoyer Statement on the Treasury Department's Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds

May 10, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after the Treasury Department issued guidance on the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, established by the American Rescue Plan, which will provide Maryland with over $6 billion in additional funding:

"Today's announcement that Maryland will receive over $6 billion in funding for state and local governments through the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, established by the American Rescue Plan, will go a long way in helping our state recover from the economic damage done by the COVID-19 pandemic. With this assistance, governments throughout the Fifth District will be able to keep essential workers on the job and provide resources to our communities. This funding is an important step toward ensuring we can return to normalcy.

"The guidance issued by the Treasury Department today shows that this funding can be used in a number of ways to strengthen our local communities, including through support to small businesses, help for the hardest-hit households, and investments in broadband access and infrastructure resources. Additionally, this funding can help ensure that Maryland's recovery is an equitable one by addressing longstanding disparities that have been exacerbated in public health, education, and our economy. Nearly two months after the enactment of the American Rescue Plan, our state continues to benefit from this law. Throughout this crisis, I've been a strong advocate for resources for our state and local governments. I'm pleased this funding will help municipalities throughout the Fifth District, and I'll continue working with the Biden Administration to make sure Maryland fully rebounds from this crisis."
