Hoyer Statement on Surpassing 150,000 COVID-19 Cases in Maryland

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after the state of Maryland surpassed 150,000 COVID-19 cases:

“Today, Maryland crossed a devastating milestone and surpassed 150,000 COVID-19 cases. It is clear that this virus is aggressively spreading throughout our state, and disproportionately impacting communities of color. The Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress have repeatedly told Maryland’s families that they are ‘on their own.’ Instead of working with Democrats to enact comprehensive relief, they let critical aid expire, leaving families and small businesses to navigate this crisis without assistance.

“I continue to urge Republicans to come back to the negotiating table and work with Democrats to enact a comprehensive relief package that can replenish aid to Maryland’s small businesses, support Maryland’s families, and provide financial security to Maryland workers who are waiting to get back to work. Marylanders should continue to put faith in science and follow the advice of our public health experts. We are in this fight together and each of us plays a vital role in stopping the spread.”
