Hoyer Statement on Small Group Rates Approved for Maryland's Small Business Health Options Program Exchange

October 2, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) issued the following statement today after Maryland Health Insurance Commissioner Therese M. Goldsmith announced that she had approved health insurance policies and premium rates for plans to be sold through Maryland's Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) Exchange:

"Maryland continues to lead the nation in implementing the Affordable Care Act, and I'm pleased that the Small Business Health Options Program Exchange rates announced today compare favorably to other states and are among the lowest in the country. It is also good news that there will be thirteen insurance carriers selling health insurance plans in the small group market, offering Maryland small businesses and their employees a wide range of competitively-priced options. Over the coming weeks and months, I will continue working with federal, state, and local stakeholders as we move forward with implementation, outreach, and enrollment."
