Hoyer Statement on Settlement Following the Death of William Green

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced a $20 million settlement had been awarded to the family of William Green, who was shot and killed earlier this year by a police officer:

"Today's announcement brings our community one step closer to being able to heal from the horrific and inexcusable shooting death of William Green, who was handcuffed in a patrol car when he was shot six times by a police officer earlier this year. While no amount of money can bring William back, I hope that this settlement will provide his family with some relief. It is appropriate that Prince George's County take responsibility for this egregious act by someone who was meant to protect our citizens. I hope that justice is fully served during the criminal trial next year."
