Hoyer Statement on Senate Vote to Proceed with Consideration of Legislation to Repeal the Affordable Care Act

July 25, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after the Senate passed a motion to proceed to begin debate on legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act:

"That Republicans would vote to begin debate on legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would kick hundreds of thousands of Marylanders off of their health insurance and raise costs for thousands more, is inconceivable. Instead of joining with Democrats to improve health care and lower costs, Republicans are attempting to force their extreme TrumpCare proposals through the Senate, which would have severe consequences for families across Maryland.

"I urge Senate Republicans to abandon their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and instead work with Democrats in a bipartisan manner to stabilize our insurance markets and ensure all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care."
