January 9, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement on the retirement announcement of Dr. Monica Goldson, CEO of Prince George's County Public Schools:

"I join in thanking CEO of Prince George's County Public Schools Dr. Monica Goldson for her decades of service and in wishing her well as she retires from her position at the end of this school year. For thirty-two years, Prince George's County has been lucky to have her leadership, wisdom, and commitment to public service. Whether as a math teacher at my alma mater, Suitland High School, or as a CEO responsible for 131,000 students, Dr. Goldson always put learners and their families first. I am especially thankful for her work on early childhood development and partnership in supporting Judy Centers in the county.

"Throughout her career, she has helped so many families and students navigate pressing challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Her transformative impact on our county will continue to benefit future generations of Prince Georgians, and I know that Dr. Goldson will remain an important voice on education priorities even as she enjoys her well-earned retirement. I wish her luck and happiness as she begins this exciting next chapter. We will always appreciate all that she has accomplished for her community, county, and country."
