Hoyer Statement on the Retirement Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh

October 22, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh announced his retirement:

"I want to thank my friend Attorney General Brian Frosh for his thirty-four years of service to the people of Maryland. As a State Delegate, State Senator, and Attorney General, he has dedicated his career to improving the lives of Marylanders, seeking justice for all, and working to ensure that everyone in our state has equitable access to opportunities to achieve economic security.

"When the Trump Administration engaged in assaults on our Constitution and on Americans' basic rights, Attorney General Frosh was among those who fought it in court, defending the people of Maryland and the values our state represents. He led efforts to combat domestic violence and punish those guilty of sexual assault and abuse. Recognizing the need for action, he helped stand up for communities most vulnerable to climate change while promoting greater energy efficiency for Maryland consumers. Seeing the pain of families that had endured gun violence in our communities, Attorney General Frosh took on gun violence and worked to get illegal firearms off our streets. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he launched an initiative to ensure that Marylanders still had access to justice, including those under threat of eviction from their homes or facing consumer fraud. Moreover, he has forcefully defended the right to vote, the rule of law, and civil rights in our state at a time when all three have been under threat.

"As Attorney General Frosh prepares to step down at the end of his term, I join in wishing him all the best in retirement, and I thank Marcy, their daughters, and the entire Frosh family for allowing him to dedicate so much of his time and energy to the work of making a better Maryland for all."
