Hoyer Statement on the Retirement of College of Southern Maryland President Dr. Maureen Murphy
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement after Dr. Maureen Murphy announced her retirement as President of the College of Southern Maryland (CSM):
"As a lifelong advocate for educational excellence, I join many today in thanking my dear friend Dr. Maureen Murphy for her work in Maryland as the President of the College of Southern Maryland and for positively transforming the educational experience for so many students in our state. While Dr. Murphy is physically leaving the College of Southern Maryland, her legacy on campus will be felt for years to come.
"I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Murphy on several occasions over the years and have seen her passion for higher learning up close. Her most recent achievement can be seen in the new Health Sciences facility at the Hughesville Campus, which will expand health science programs for students interested in specialized programs; as well as her work to advance promising collaborations between the CSM Velocity Center and state, local, and federal agencies that unite technology and innovation in Indian Head.
"While I will certainly miss her extraordinary leadership, I am wishing Dr. Murphy a happy retirement in the years ahead and thank her for her service to students in the Fifth District."
