Hoyer Statement on Resolution that Disapproves Clean Water Rule

January 13, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after House passage of the disapproval resolution which invalidates the Clean Water Rule:

"Today, I was disappointed that House Republicans passed a resolution that would undermine the Obama Administration's Clean Water Rule, which protects our lakes, streams, wetlands and other waterways from pollution. The Clean Water Rule restores critical safeguards that once existed to protect many of our country's natural water resources. I have been a longtime advocate of minimizing pollution in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, and ensuring that Marylanders have clean, safe and reliable water for their communities. I urge House Republicans to work with Democrats to strengthen the Clean Water Act. Maryland families deserve to know that their water is safe to drink and clean enough to fish, swim, and recreate in, and we should be acting to give certainty to our businesses across the state when they seek a water permit or turn on the tap."
