Hoyer Statement on Reports of Trump Administration's Continued Attack on Federal Employees

December 18, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after it was reported that the Trump Administration is considering a proposal to freeze the salaries of federal employees in Fiscal Year 2019:

"The Trump Administration's continued attacks on our hardworking federal workforce must end. First, President Trump foolishly instituted an across-the-board hiring freeze on the federal workforce. Only after seeing the severely negative consequences of this action did the Administration reverse the policy. Now, reports indicate that the Administration seeks to freeze the pay of the people who contribute to our nation, including those who provide health care to our veterans, make sure our food is safe to consume, and keep our communities safe. President Trump's relentless attacks on federal employees only make it harder to recruit talented individuals to serve their country and demoralize our workforce.

"This proposed action is unacceptable, and our federal employees deserve better. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to fight back against the Trump Administration's efforts to undermine our dedicated federal civilian workforce."
