Hoyer Statement on Reports of Hate Speech in St. Mary's County

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement in response to reports of racist remarks and hateful actions by students during a football game between Leonardtown High School and Great Mills High School on Thursday evening:

"I was distressed to hear reports of racist remarks and hateful actions at a high school football game in St. Mary's County on Thursday evening. If these reports are true, these actions are highly disturbing and must not be tolerated. The individuals involved must be held accountable, and I urge the St. Mary's County School Board to swiftly address these inexcusable acts of hate. I will continue to monitor the situation closely."
