Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Fiscal Year 2021 Budget Proposal

February 10, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the President's budget for Fiscal Year 2021:

"The President's budget proposal is a slap in the face to working families in Maryland. It makes significant cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, nutrition assistance, student loan assistance, and other programs that help working families get ahead. It would force federal employees to pay more for their retirement benefits, harming our ability to recruit and retain the talented workforce needed to serve the American people. It also undermines our ability to clean up the Chesapeake Bay by cutting more than 91% of funding for that purpose, which would undermine the environment, public health, and the economy.

"The President's budget is nothing more than a partisan wish-list, which would inflict serious harm on families in the Fifth District. Maryland families deserve better, and I will continue to fight efforts by this Administration and Republicans in Congress to cut the programs that provide important assistance to families in our state."
