Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Fiscal Year 2020 Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after the Trump Administration released its budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2020:

"President Trump's budget proposal is a nonstarter. Just months after inflicting a painful and costly 35-day shutdown, the President is putting our country at risk of yet another shutdown by demanding billions of dollars for an unnecessary and ineffective border wall. Furthermore, the President's budget once again attacks our hardworking federal workforce by freezing their pay and threatening their retirement savings. The President's proposal also seeks to repeal the Affordable Care Act and fails to invest in infrastructure, education and workforce development, and programs to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay.

"This proposal must be rejected. The President ought to work with Democrats to reach agreement on funding levels that will allow us to prevent another shutdown and afford investments that address the needs of families in Maryland and throughout the nation. I urge my Republican colleagues to work in a bipartisan manner to responsibly address the fiscal needs of our nation."
