Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Fiscal Year 2019 Budget Proposal

February 12, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after President Donald Trump released his budget proposal for fiscal year 2019:

"President Trump's fiscal year 2019 budget proposal is unacceptable. The Trump Administration's proposal once again targets our hardworking federal civilian workforce by making significant cuts to retirement benefits while also freezing pay. Additionally, the proposal reduces the amount of federal funds appropriated for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, eliminates important funding for NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, and once again slashes funding to preserve the Chesapeake Bay. All in all, the Trump Administration's budget proposal shows an extreme disinvestment in our nation.

"This proposal is bad for the Fifth District, bad for Maryland, and bad for our nation. I urge my Republican colleagues to reject President Trump's outlandish proposal outright, and work with Democrats in a fiscally responsible manner to address the needs of our nation."
